How Many Sessions Are Needed?

Microneedling, also referred to as collagen induction therapy, involves using super-fine needles to create hundreds of tiny, invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin. These wounds are called micro-injuries, and the micro-injuries that are created with microneedling stimulate the body’s innate wound-healing processes.
The total number of treatment sessions you will need depends on the extent of the damage to your skin and the results you are hoping to get from the treatment. In most cases, you will need approximately 3 to 5 treatments to get the best results scheduled 4-6 weeks apart.
Maintenance
After your treatments, you will see youthful, bright, revitalized skin. To keep your skin looking healthy and strong, you will want to come in for maintenance sessions. We will recommend a good time period to wait between maintenance sessions, but most people choose to return every 3 months to keep any new skin damage from becoming more intense.
What is treatment like with microneedling?
The microneedling pen uses sterile, individually-sealed, disposable needle cartridges for optimal patient safety and comfort. Every microneedle tip is made up of small needles, which use proprietary technology to penetrate vertically into the skin. This creates small, micro-skin channels, while stimulating the skin’s natural ability to heal itself and increasing the production of new collagen — which is the formation of strong, insoluble fibers that serve as connective tissue between cells. These micro-skin channels carry up to 80% more topical nutrients applied to the skin during the treatment, allowing for deep penetration into the dermal fibroblasts, feeding the cells found in the dermis and basal layers. This increases the absorption of active ingredients into the skin, stimulating repair at a cellular level and accelerating the regeneration of the skin’s epidermal cells.
Am I a good candidate?
Because microneedling is minimally invasive, doesn’t cause significant wounding of skin, and isn’t light-based, most people can safely undergo micro needling therapy with minimal risk of long-term adverse effects. There is little to no downtime post treatment. Typically, important factors such as age or skin color don’t matter. Even areas of the body where skin is typically thin can undergo treatment with some micro needling devices where depth of penetration is consistent and easily regulated.
What can I expect before and after treatment?
It is important to discontinue use of Retin A, Retinols, Vitamin A creams and other topic medications for 3-5 days before your micro needling treatment.
During the skin’s healing process, your body produces fresh collagen to replace the damaged collagen, which rejuvenates your skin by increasing your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin. This may result in an overall improvement in the texture and tightness of your skin by “filling in the lines,” and removing the wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks. You may return to work immediately post treatment, just wear your sunscreen! Your face will be pink post treatment for about 12 hours and sensitive to the sun and touch. We recommend avoiding exercise for 48-72 hours after the treatment for the skin to completely recover.
